Cover Me

$4,500.00

Original Watercolor in the Magical Surreal Series by Cecilia Henle

31.50 X 40” on Arches archival 300Lb hot press paper

Matted in archival 100% cotton rag, and framed in a gorgeous granulated metal frame.

This painting emerged over two years, guided by recurring dreams that shaped it’s manifestation. It marks my first transition from surreal black and white dream drawings into watercolor. The bird featured is Ki, my cherished companion parrot who became my real-life hero when he saved my life.

"Cover Me" is a dreamlike watercolor exploration of vulnerability and protection. In this intimate portrayal, the figure's posture suggests both a yearning for shelter and an inherent strength found in moments of exposure. The delicate, translucent layers of watercolor create a ethereal atmosphere, evoking the liminal space between safety and surrender.

The composition draws viewers into a deeply personal narrative where the human form becomes a vessel for universal emotions. Through masterful control of pigment and white space, the painting captures that precise moment when we find ourselves caught between the desire to be seen and the instinct to seek cover.

This piece continues my signature style of figurative surreal dreamscapes while exploring human vulnerability. The watercolor technique allows for both precise detail and atmospheric abstraction, creating a dynamic tension that mirrors the artwork's conceptual foundation.

The title "Cover Me" works on multiple levels - as both plea and command, reflecting our complex relationship with vulnerability and our need for connection with others.
